Thirst (South Korea, 2009)

Sang-hyun, a priest working for a hospital, selflessly volunteers for a secret vaccine development project intended to eradicate a deadly virus. However, the virus eventually takes over the priest. He nearly dies, but makes a miraculous recovery by an accidental transfusion of vampire blood. He realizes his sole reason for living: the pleasures of the flesh.

A unique take on the vampire-genre to begin with, and also a fantastic looking film. The story is thrilling and feels fresh and lovely dark. Directed by Park Chan-wook, a name you should be very familiar with, otherwise I can help by saying he's made terrific films such as Oldboy (2003) and Joint Security Area (2000). The rooftop-jumping scene is nothing but gorgeous.

It's hard not to love this film.

Genre: Horror
